Carer Support Volunteer
The Carer Support volunteer role is a new joint initiative between BHT and Carers Bucks to support the unpaid carers of our patients
Commitment: 2-3 hours per week for a min 6 months
What are the key tasks?
- Support of unpaid carers: To meet with family and friends on wards as they visit patients and listen to their needs in a sensitive and supportive way.
- Ensure carers are aware of BHT’s Carer Passport which allows carers to be recognised as part of the care team and has benefits such as longer visiting hours and reduced car parking fees
- Raise awareness of Carers Bucks services among patients, carers and staff as appropriate and distribute information materials
- Meet with carers who have been admitted to hospital themselves and offer support as needed.
- Keep a record of activity: The role will involve some record-keeping so the volunteer can inform their Carers Bucks supervisor about the needs of those they have met.
- Collect feedback from carers and patients on their experience
